sending mail is a beutiful! ive been doing it avidly for a few years now, exchanging with friends, family & other photographers from all over the globe now i get 2 or 3 things in the mail everyday . you can see all the mail i get on a blog for the film por vida print exchange program. you can also join by sending a photo to: the P.E.P. 619 south 5th st san jose ca 95112 or start your own? its easy just send mail to everyone you know & see what happens.

(This is something i've always wanted to get down with. I remember my good ol' friend Mr. Nick Kraska(Post Honeymoon, The New Black) and his best friend used to do this kind of thing and I was always jealous. Of course my jealousy didn't spring into action and do something about it. But i'm starting to think it's just about time...

I've been listening to Black Moon lately. Coincidentally, I saw Buckshot perform at an outdoor show in the Prospect Park bandshell a few weeks ago. I never listened to the group much when they came out in the early nineties, even though a lot my friends seemed to love them.

Today I did a search on the Web for the lyrics to "How Many MC's?" and the lyrics all showed up with incorrect verses. One of the sites allowed the user to correct the lyrics, so here's my version below. Though I luckily happen to have a bonus acapella edition of the song which allows Buckshot's voice to be heard with crystal clearness, a couple of lines are really hard to decipher, like the "Can predata etcetera, yeah right" line. Hell, sometimes a rapper will just make up any words to fit into the bar of a verse. Anyhow, the closest draft is what I could come up with below.

For you music headz, the main music sample is from Grover Washington, Jr.'s "Hydra", and the scratched sample in the chorus is taken from Boogie Down Productions "My Philosophy".

I'm by no means the biggest fan of 'the tight clothes movement' of the moment but suggesting that tight clothes are responsible for turning men gay and therefore by default, women lesbians is just sad. And especially sad that The Voice would actually give this ish any mind, I call boo to poor journalism. Their narrow-mindedness also insinuates that hip hop MUST be gangster and tights clothes cannot be hip hop and likewise a homosexual cannot be gangster and on and on. Logic and reality is obviously lost on them. Too bad these cats that 'supposedly' have the streets ear in the BK can't throw their weight behind something that actually means something.

Afrika Bambaataa, Godfather of Hip Hop was in a gang, but I seriously doubt he would call himself a gangster.
Earsnot is gay and may or may not claim himself a gangster but he will stomp a mof*cka (and has).
Run DMC not hip hop? Jam Master Jay homosexual?!?!

What up. Pete Rock and CL Smooth is pumping through my speakers and summer jams abound. A year ago I was in the middle of an "alone-ness", spending time by myself and lost in a dreamworld. It was fucked up, son. But I'm much better and things are much better now, especially the money sitch. I'm still alone, but I feel happier inside. I got mad shit to create and places to visit.

It's muggy and supposed to rain this whole weekend. The sun is actually shining through the thick silvery clouds this Friday evening. I wish I were out at an outdoor cafe writing this, but I don't have a laptop.

Finally made a Krolewskie Jadlo tshirt for myself. I get food from there a lot and it's really tasty and affordable. Hell, I'm chomping down on some bigos, mashed potatoes, and mushroom pierogis right now. I chose a mint-colored American Apparel shirt to be summery and had it printed at T-Shirt Express. It's a hole-in-the wall with stacks and stacks of shirts and stuff everywhere, and they mainly do screenprinted shirts, but they did a great job with a simple heat transfer. The super bonus was that they knocked out all of the white areas automatically from my flattened Photoshop files, something I had to do myself when I hand-cut my own heat tranfer prints at the place I used to go to in the LES, which is closed for good. T-Shirt Express is on the outskirts of Chinatown, so I spoke with the people there directly in Cantonese. Hell yeah.

Form + Freedom= Roller Coaster

Coney Island is one of those places you have to visit. It's touristy and local touristy, a fun tourist spot to check out in your own city. I took this photo of the Cyclone. In part roller coasters are just fun to photograph especially wooden ones with so many lines and intersections and angles. The aesthetic interplay is just as intriguing and chaotic as the ride itself. And the Cyclone especially has so much imbedded history, everyone has a intimate yet some sort of communal relationship with it. You don't even have to see it in person, there's just an immediate, visceral, collective response to what can only be referred to as a 'bitchin', scary ass, old, rickety roller coaster that's a hell of a lot scarier to ride than any of the new confounded, technical rides. A lot more chance gets thrown in the mix.
Anyway, it made me want to draw some bold, bubbly lines for an outline with un-contained colorful chaos in the background. Form and freedom, structured chaos.
